Wednesday 1st November
We were all awake at 4am, but managed to hold out for brekky until 8. Ah
breakfast in Paris, a chunk of bread, butter and tinned fruit salad has never
tasted so good...
We went for a wander down to Notre Dame and the kids played on the playground
overlooking the Seine in the sunshine, and chatted to a couple of Australian
kids and their Grandpa. Then Savannah decided she was 'busting'. The first
set of toilets were out of order so we headed to the front of the church, only
to find that the toilets didn't open for another 15 minutes, I think that was
the most uncomfortable few minutes of her life to date.
Ash and I went for a walk and met a lovely Frenchman who was feeding the
sparrows and had them sitting on his hands. We had a great chat in Franglish
and Ash was enchanted with the Oiseaux (birds).
We had a very expensive coffee on the sidewalk overlooking the church (worth
every cent), and tried to avoid the crazy old guy that was standing in the
middle of the street with his bag and bottle grabbing passers by.
Back at the hotel we packed and trundled off to the Metro. Lugging 5 bags, 5
backpacks and a baby around the streets of Paris isn't as bad as it sounds -
until you hit the endless flights of stairs that are the Paris metro. The
stations are ancient by Aussie standards, and very few have even an esclator,
let alone a lift.
Thankfully those rumours about Parisians are untrue, and this time - as
last we
were never short of a few extra pairs of hands to carry the cases.
Initially a
could of Australians met us at the entrance and carries the girls cases
all the
way down to our platform, as well as giving us their extra tickets. At the
next station every flight of stairs we encountered people would pick up a
suitcase and carry to the top for us. I started off a little nervous
that they
would take off with one, but then who really wants a could of pairs of someone
elses jeans and some knickers?
We made it to the TGV with plenty of tile to spare, and before we knew it we
were bustling off into the French country side at more that 200kms an hour..
Stay tuned for Arrival in Juigne sur Loire...
